BTEC/ EDEXCEL HND IN COMPUTING

Higher National Diploma popularly known as BTEC HND is a flagship qualification of Edexcel. HNDs are offered in over 9 major disciplines. These are 16 Unit qualifications which can be completed though approved centers of Edexcel.

It is a Pre-degree or Vocational Qualification awarded by Edexcel of UK. Successful completion of this BTEC HND from Edexcel guarantees a placement in either second or third year in any university or college in the UK or elsewhere.

For those who have been successful at A/L, it is an ideal path leading to a degree or to an internationally recognized qualification which will pave the way for a highly-paid job in a selected field. It provides the right balance between knowledge and skills. Students who take BTEC HNC/HND can get better and more profitable employment options at the end of the course as well as opportunities for higher Education (Bachelor of Science Degree) whereby he/she can aim for even better job options.

HND in Computing covers the more technological and applied aspects of computing including Programming, Software Design, Networking, Hardware, Information Systems and Systems Programming offering a balance of practical skills and theory.

BTEC Higher National Diploma

The BTEC Higher National Diplomas in Computing is a 16 modules qualification programme covering 18 months. To receive HND, the student should complete all 16 modules successfully (Conditions applicable).

DURATION OF HND IN COMPUTING

The HND will take 18 Months (4 Semesters- 4 and ½ months per semester) to complete studying full time. A full-time/part-time student will have 60 teaching hours per subject (Total 16*60 hours). Lectures will be conducted in two-hour blocks, Particles will be conducted in two hour blocks and Tutorials will be conducted in one hour blocks per week for each and every subject. Students may attend as many tutorial/practical sessions as they need

A student would be expected to spend at least the equivalent of teaching hours in private study.

EDUCATION OPTIONS AFTER HND IN COMPUTING

Leading to Final Year of BSc (Hons) in Computing/IT in Sri Lanka or transfer to UK / USA / Australia.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES/CAREER PATH AFTER HND IN COMPUTING

The typical positions available for such HND qualifiers include Associate Software Engineers, Associate Software Quality Assurance Engineers, Junior Programmers, Web Designers, Network and Communication Specialists, and Systems Analysts.
